Transliteration:
Ādau Rāma-tapo-vanādi-gamanam hatvā mrigam kānchanam
Vaidehi-haranam jatāyu-marṇam sugriva-sambhāshaṇam
Vāli-nirdalanam samudra-taraṇam Lankāpuri-dāhnam
Pashchād-Rāvaṇa-Kumbhakarṇa hananam etaddhi Rāmāyaṇam
Translation:
Bhagvān Shri Rāma went to the forest in order to fulfill the promise his father had given to one of his wives (Kaikeyi). In the forest, Seetā Mātā was attracted by the golden deer and Bhagvān Shri Rāma went after it. At that time, the wicked Rāvaṇa kidnapped Seetā Mātā. Jatāyu tried to defend Seetā Mātā and save her, but, was mortally wounded by Rāvaṇa. Bhagvān Shri Rāma then befriended Sugriva and killed his brother Vāli, the unrighteous. Bhagvān Shri Rāma then crossed the ocean and entered the city of Lankā. He then destroyed the city of Lankā, killed the wicked demons Rāvaṇa and his brother Kumbhakarṇa and thus rescued Seetā Mātā. This is the story contained in the epic known as the Rāmāyaṇa.
